BUSH CAMPING OR LODGE SAFARIS
BUSH CAMPING SAFARIS VS LODGE SAFARIS ACCORDING TO HIS EXPERIENCE by
Bush camping or lodge safari ? Well it depends on how adventurous you are. I have done several bush camping trips in Tanzania, Selous, Ruaha, Katavi, Serengeti, etc. Always with Otto Mlanda, owner of Otto safari guide – Tanzania Safaris Guide.
Bush camping gives you totally freedom and flexibility to do what you want – start gamedrives as early as possible in the morning, stay at a sighting as long as you want, to get better photos, maybe a hunt. Get out on the afternoon game drive, when you want. Quite often I am alone at a sighting, which have given me a lot of special moments and fantastic photos. I always go on safari alone or with a few people, which gives us a private experience. We camp at special campsites, with no other people around, and enjoy the wilderness feeling, sitting around the campfire, listening to the sounds of Africa.
Quite often we have wildlife visiting camp at night, elephants, hippo, hyena, lion, ect, but we always feel safe. Food is simple but good, cooked by Otto.
Lodge can be good as well, but you are not alone, other guests, more noise, and if on a budget, you stay outside gates of game reserves/national parks. Which gives you a lot of waist time, entering the gate, long drive to the most productive areas. With bush camping you are in the middle of the action – sometimes around camp.
